Antwerp stands on Belgian bluestone: pavements, thresholds, facade plinths and the steps of every townhouse in Zurenborg. We take limescale and cement haze off without grinding the stone dull, always after a test patch.
Bluestone looks indestructible and isn't. Shop-bought acid descalers attack the surface: the buildup goes, but the stone turns pale grey and rough, and that damage never comes out. So we test on an inconspicuous spot first.
Pavements after winter
Road salt leaves white staining and etching on bluestone. The earlier it's treated, the better.
Mosaic and marble floors
Townhouse entrance halls with original floors need a gentler approach than exterior stone.
Test patch first, always
On an inconspicuous spot. You judge the result before we continue.
Protective finish
So buildup returns more slowly and lifts more easily next time.
A photo of the buildup is often enough for a first estimate.
Photo and stone type
A photo usually tells us whether it's bluestone, marble or concrete.
Test on site
We treat a small area, you assess it, and only then do we set a fixed price.

Salt penetrates the pores of bluestone and leaves white efflorescence, sometimes with light etching. Treatment in spring, before summer, gives the best result.
Yes, but differently from exterior stone. Old cement tiles and mosaic are porous and won't tolerate acidic products; we use a neutral clean there and always test one tile first.
Better not. On weathered stone the jet opens up the top layer, so dirt penetrates faster afterwards. It looks good for a week and worse than before after that.
Then we stop and you pay nothing. We'll say honestly beforehand what is and isn't achievable.
In Antwerp, maintaining the pavement in front of your property falls to the owner or occupant. Repairs to the paving itself are a separate matter and go to the city.
Thresholds, plinths and defined areas, yes. A full facade requiring scaffolding is outside our offer.

Alongside historic stone we handle the everyday cases: cement haze on a newly laid terrace, limescale on shower screens and tiles, and weathered thresholds at street level. On buildings in the protected townscape we work with extra care, with a test patch you assess yourself first.
